I’m So Glad It’s You

A confession for those who are suffering. My prayer while thinking about recent tragedy.

I’m so glad it’s You. These wounds are deep, but I know they are not the careless strokes of an enemy, but wounds of love. They are planned, purposeful, perfect. I’m so glad it’s You.

I’m so glad it’s You. None of it makes sense to me, but it was done in perfect wisdom. Who else could be trusted to wound like this? All Your works are perfect, and You are infinite in wisdom. I trust that Your ways are higher that my ways, and Your thoughts than my thoughts. I’m so glad it’s You.

I’m so glad it’s You. I feel alone, but You are with me. In the valley of the shadow of death, You never forsake, but You draw near. Even there, I dare to believe You word: You are with me. And I’m so glad it’s You.

I’m so glad it’s You. My tears are real, but they are not dismissed. “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book” (Psalm 56:8)? You who give the tears, know every one. I’m so glad it’s You.

I’m so glad it’s You. The tears seem like they’ll never stop, but they are not forever. There will be a Day, when you’ve promised to swallow up death, take away my reproach, and wipe away tears from all faces. And I’m so glad it’s You.

I’m so glad it’s You. These wounds are terrible, but they are not unjust. I have not been given more than I deserve, but much, much less. Justice demands that the soul who sins shall die, but mercy cries from the cross, “Forgive them” and “It is finished.” My wounds are great, but You have been wounded first. Our greatest need has been met in Christ. Heal us by your scourging.

We are devastated. We grieve. I’m so glad it’s You.

  2. As a widow, I need to be reminded of this glorious hope. Thank you for this. I have shared it with many others who I’m sure will find it comforting. God bless you and your ministry.
